PLANTERIA

Highfield nurseries was established in the 1920s by Mr Bazeley. It was a local plant nursery with home grown plants and a busy mail order department. Joan Greenway worked for Mr Bazeley until he retired in 1987 when she took over. Joan bought the present site and Highfield Garden Centre was opened by Geoff Hamilton in 1992, this being our twenty third anniversary. The mail order nursery in School Lane was closed in 2010 but we continue to grow on plants at the site for sale in the Garden Centre.

We sell a wide range of plants with fresh plants coming in for sale regularly. As a legacy from the nursery days, we still stock an excellent variety of fruit plants and trees which are now all sold in pots that means you have plenty of time to get them planted. We have perennials, shrubs, roses, alpines and herbs. You will be spoilt for choice. If you are thinking of growing your own vegetables we have plants during the appropriate season. Come and have a browse. We are sure you will find something for your garden and if you need any advice please ask our staff who are very knowledgeable, many being long serving and all live locally.

With lovely plants available local gardens in Whitminster, Hardwicke, Eastington, Frampton on Severn, Gloucester, Stroud, Stonehouse and whole of Gloucestershire can look beautiful.

Jon Mason

Director

Jon started his career as a Garden Centre Assistant at the age of 16 and attended Hartpury College on day release for 3 years. He quickly climbed the local horticultural ladder and, after joining Highfield in 1996 as Planteria Manager, he was made a director of the company in 2001.

Jon is always available to give customers helpful advice and can be found out in the Planteria or in the Information shed. His excellent first-hand knowledge of plant availability means he can quickly let customers know if or when the stock they want is ready for sale. He supervises the growing of plants down on our nursery site to ensure they are in tip-top condition before they come up to the Garden Centre for customers to buy. Jon’s busy role often includes visiting nurseries in Italy, Holland and Germany, as well as growers throughout the U.K., to ensure he chooses the best available stock for Highfield.

During his spare time Jon much enjoys coarse fishing and running. He even completed the London Marathon in 2013 and raised £3046 for Parkinsons UK.
